Team4Runner and our new 2016 4Runner Build

Hey Guys!

Sadly I am new to the forum world but couldn't be more excited-

I currently drive a 2001 4Runner with a handful of minimal, simple upgrades. But, our team is investing into a new project. We will be outfitting a 2016 4Runner and adding it to our team of 4Runners! We are stoked and would be excited to hear thoughts, advice, recommendations on what to upgrade, where to upgrade, who to upgrade too, and any other recommendations or thoughts!

This is huge for us as we prepare our build thread!

Excited to chat and hear what we should do!

So, depending on which 2016 you end up with, drive it in stock form first to see what capabilities it has and go from there. My approach was to take it on some trails that pushed the limit slightly so I could see what the gaps were in performance. I'm a big fan of keeping vehicles as stock as possible, that being said I almost always upgrade the shocks, on two and 4 wheel vehicles. I found the CRAWL control on the Trail Premium a game changer, with descent off road tires, it's capabilities are really impressive. Once again through, go out and practice with it in a controlled environment so you learn how it reacts and where it's strengths and weaknesses are.

My gf and I have now done a couple weeks of trips total and this is what we ended up with:
2016 Trail Premium w/KDSS(greatly improves handling on and off road, especially with the RTT. This also allowed us to keep a desirable spring rate for offload yet still have satisfactory handling on road).
TRD Pro front shocks
TRD Pro wheels with Toyo Open Country AT 2 tires in stock size
Firestone rear airbags(added but probably not needed for overlanding due to our gear configuration but nice to have in case we need them).
Baja flat rack
CVT RTT(came from our Tacoma)
On order:
ARB awning and screen room

We try to keep things as light as possible when we travel as this saves wear and tear on the vehicle and on us. Less is more!

Best of luck with your build and keep us posted.
