Technical LR wheel question.

Hello all. Looking for some advice/answers. Like many others I'm finally ready to make the swap to 18" rims for my LR3. While I could get the the 10 spoke 18's for $150 a piece all day just about anywhere I've been tempted going the Disco 2, 5-spoke 18" wheel route but haven't seen anyone do this. My main concern would be the load capacity on those rims compared to the LR3's. Would they handle the extra weight?
Side question is would they have the same backspacing?

Thanks in advance.

The D2 wheels have smaller hubs hole that would need to be opened up a bit to fit.
Not really worth the effort.

And just where are you finding 18's for 150 a piece all day long???

Thank you for he reply. Didn't know that about the hub. The only place I've been able to find them for the last 4 months has been ebay. They've all been $149-$190 every time I check. Might stalk some local LR3's in town and try to work out a wheel swap. Just sucks spending $750+ on 5 wheels. Then even larger chunk on tires.

I sold the set of 5 I had for 500, with tires on them with some tread left. I believe Justin has the 17" rims for the LR3 if you are interested.

I would be careful about putting just any rim on, due to the weight of the vehicle. You want to have the correct rims / width.

I'm running 18's on mine, but if I had to buy them I would go 17's. Lucky 8"s 17 are pretty inexpensive.

All good points. I really like the idea of the 17's but concerned on balancing issues. I ran a set of similar steel wheels on my past Tacoma and never had a good balance of all 4.
Side note all might be getting a lot better. Met a local man in a '06 LR3 that owns a small business. Just asked him if he would mind trading wheels and tires. (His are almost bald mine are about 30% left) offered him $200 plus the cost of transferring the TPMS from his wheels to mine. You would have thought I told him he won the lottery. Sad part. He's leaving the country Monday and won't be back for 28 days. Guess I'll just have to wait.

Side question.
Run spacers or not? I'll probably be replacing the front hub assembly's prior to the new tires which would ease some of my concern with the spacers. I worry about the added stress but like the wider stance and increased stability. Just can't decide which trade off to take.

Thanks for the replies everyone!

Toddco Spacers

Toddco bodyspacers... I heard they tear airbags in certain situations and are not to be used.
A better bet is the Lucky 8 Proud Rhino lift rods which are on sale now. (no affiliation, just a repeat customer)
Wheelspacers: Pooh-poohed by many. A lot of LR4's including the Expedition portal LR4 build are running them without issues. Mine have been on for 4 years, with no issues, and nearly 50k miles. (I imagine we are using them because the Compomotive wheels have not been available through a regular company)
BTW, UNseenone is they guy to go to if you have diff issues.

To avoid buying wheelspacers, and buying new wheels, why not save the cash and wait for the Lucky 8 compomotive wheels? Their offset pushes the wheel to the outside, and you wont have to hassle with spacers.

Good luck!:safari-rig:

Cool. Thanks for the input. Yea, no interest in the suspension spacers but the wheel spacers are getting higher on the list. Only have about 2 or 3 months left on my current tires so I'll have to pull the trigger soon.
