I have a 4 door F150 SCREW.. its stock right now and getting up there in milage. This is my DD truck but i also use it to Tow my TJ and hall my dirtbikes. Ive got a cabin in northern Michigan that is pretty remote. Id like to be able to get back to my cabin more easily in the snow ect the lil 265's arent helping.

I was planning on dumping this truck and getting a 250 but im starting to like the truck. I bought it used after I totaled my XJ and i just needed a vehicle NOW.

Whats your tips?

It sounds like you need some better tires and some recovery gear :sombrero: I'd start with that personally and go from there. I don't think you need a big lift kit or huge tires or anything like that, just keep it simple practical and functional. Given that you tow a loaded trailer often you should look into a good name brand tire and I personally would opt for the 10ply rating. From the sounds of it a more aggressive tread would help and it would be worth dealing with a little extra road noise. I'm thinking Goodyear MTR or BFG KM2's or other.. If you don't want such an aggressive tire the BFG allterrains are a great option but its up to you and your needs. Snow and remote cabin to me means airing down to a lower pressure for much better traction. I would invest in a decent pressure gauge and pack a few extra valve cores/core removers in case you accidentally loose one in the middle of nowhere (ask me how I know LOL!). Also an onboard air compressor and tire chains aren't a bad either. As for recovery gear make sure you have decent hook points front and rear and carry a high quality (cant stress that enough) tow strap or two with D-ring shackles/clevises. Depending on your budget a winch would be an excellent tool to have.

A 72 hour kit and warm clothing, first aid, fire starters/fuel, blankets, water and enough of everything for everyone you plan on traveling with :) Hope this helps,

Andrew

Depends on the year. Also, upload a pic so we can have a look at the features.

Start with bigger/taller tires with good load range for the weight you carry. If I remember correctly the 2001 vintage has 265/70/17 with the FX4 package. Upgrade these to All Terrains or Mud Terrains in D or E load. Probably stay away from wider tires.

If you have a new generation then you'll need a leveling kit to get approach angle and tire clearance.

Are you trailering you living quarters or planning a tent or truck camper?

What do you want to do with the truck?

Try not to add un-needed weight to the truck. Payload isn't all that much when you tow and haul family/gear/water/fuel. Put it on a scale before you start building it so you know what you have available for load capacity. Full tank of fuel and you inside.

I have been running TJ's since 1999 and had an WJ and a XJ Im not new to offroad travel Hell i learned to drive in a 87 Ford 150 on the trails around my cabin..

I just need to know how to make this big beast better to get me to hunting / fishing spots..

If i want to get crazy ill take the TJ

Id like to get a Truck bed camper so i can drive the 150/ camper while towing the TJ and Bike to get the most out of everything..

I guess i hear expo and think of the Expo' West Taco and figure i gotta get the 150 set up like that....

I think im going to target ground clearence / traction first then worry about lights / inverters ect later..

Sounds like you need a push bumper and a light bar.

Then you'll be set, if any deer mount an offensive against you. I've never tried to arrest anything while hunting or fishing, I'd think trying to put cuffs on a striped trout would be kinda hard to do. :coffeedrink:

You might wanna strap that mask on, you only have 10 seconds to get it on and clear it, never know when you'll come across an elk or moose fart!
