Tent AC units?

Anyone got a line on a AC unit for tents or that could work for tents? Theres a large enough generator to run it, just looking for a good efficient unit. Ive seen the swamp coolers, but looking for a full fledged AC unit.

the problem is that AC compressors take a lot of amps. In trailers and RVs, they are designed for 120V AC and 2000+ watts and are fairly large. Even AC compressors on motor vehicles take a lot of power. I use a low draw 12V fan, myself.

Here is a thread with pictures of an AC unit for a small Airstream that was mounted on the trailer tongue...

what?!?! just stay home man, good greif :p

I see your in AZ. Its not the dry desert heat that Im worried about. Its the swamps of Central/South America that are mosquito infested and 100% humidity. Its not for everyday use, but if we setup to stay for a week or two, would make a nice option. If that makes me a wimp, so be it. But at least Ill be a wimp relaxing in SA!LOL

Just buy an extra Engle, mount a fan in a hole on one side and cut an intake hole on the other side, VIAOLA!:victory:

you should really try the 12v Swampy...

Arent swamp coolers pretty much putting humidity in the air to cool? If so, that doesnt work in high humidity climates.... if you asked for a swamp cooler in Louisiana, you would get an alcoholic beverage that is full of rum.

There is another idea to look into.... although it only works when you have a supply of ice, but a ice chest with a fan in the top to blow cold air out....

Ron, the details are scattered through about 20 pages of this thread. PITA to try and cut and paste all of the information.

Found an interesting product here.

I also know that there has been some discussion on this board r.e. the small AC units used on Teardrop campers, and I think member Carlyle put one of these on his camper.

I have a Windchaser SC7 Portable Spot Air Conditioner/Dehumidifier that I bought to cool the cab of my Unimog. Reasonable size and weight and only draws about 4 amps when running. You'd leave the unit outside and point the flexy cool air outlet into the tent.

I got mine cheap last year through costco.com, but they don't seem to have them any more. Here's a web link:

Might work for you.
