tent cot brands

Hello all;
I am looking into buying a tent cot. The only brands I have found are Kamp-Rite and Cabela and judging from Internet pictures, their products seem to be identical, maybe one just a re-badge of the other. Is this correct? Are there any other brands out there?
TIA for any info.

my feeling when I saw the Cabela's tent cot was it was a re-badge. I have two singles and a double tent cot. I have used the single several times but we have not used the double yet. if you add some type of a foam mattress the tent cot is comfortable and easy to set up, no need to fumble with tent stakes anymore! they are not cheap though! I was able to score a used single for way cheap.

$179 for the oversize.
I paid nearly that for my Sierra Design 2 man tent.
I wouldn't say they are expensive.

I wouldnt say the Cabelas is a re-badge.

The standard size kamp rite sits on only two legs or supports while the Cabelas has 4. Thats the most noticable difference. That and the Cabelas tent cot comes with the rain fly.

And heres the over size kamp rite.

Im going to use some of my Government hush money to buy a couple of the Cabelas tent cots.

Good observation on the legs. I missed that. I was more curious on the material used and the quality of seams and what not.

At the end, since Kamp-Rite has the Oversize model, and that I myself am on the XXL side, that maybe my only choice. I also like the domed top and the extra headroom as well as better protection against rain.

I haven't been able to find how high the cot sits above the ground. Would any of you who actually has an Oversize model give me some idea?

Thanks

I just got done with a weekend with a Cabellas Double. It sits about 10" or 12" up off of the ground. Set up was fast head room was minimal. I am not a big person (5'9" and 170lbs) and I had to roll out of the tent to pull on my shoes/socks. We had no threat of rain so I did not deploy the rain-fly. The breathability might be improved with all of the doors/windows open and the fly on. I'm not going to return the tent to the store, but I wish the fabric was more breathable.

The oversize is 11" off the ground.

I am 6'1" the oversize is much more comfortable the the standard size.

I had the oversize Cabelas' Tent Cot and recall it being at the same height as most any cot, maybe 18" or so off the ground.

BTW, the one thing I didn't like about the large Tent Cot is that you can feel the crossbrace through the stock mattress. I'm prettty averaged-sized, but I needed extra padding to keep from having the brace bother me. Might be worth checking whether it's a problem for you.

Here is a picture of the oversize for reference of how high off the ground it is.

TentCot makes the Cabela's version. It is the old style Oversize.

The 2 leg Original TentCot is small.
The 4 leg Oversize w/ domed roof is the newest design. That is the one I would get= that domed roof makes a big difference.

Did you feel like you had to vent in the middle of the night in order to not become asphyxiated? I'm thinking about buying one of these, definitely don't want an air-tight seal when I crash out after putting back a few...

Thank you all for the replies. The pictures were a big help too.

The way I see it, and from some googling, the biggest complain seem to be the type of fabric used and its lack of adequate ventilation. Perhaps a couple of small mesh windows sewed in by the owner might help that shortcoming, then again, not everyone has that skill including myself.

From a personal perspective, another shortcoming would be too short of legs. With all my body's joint problems, I would prefer a much higher legs even at the expense of bulk and weight. Rigging up extended legs should be do-able. Hummmm???

Thanks again :)

Tombkeeper,

I didn't feel like I needed to vent the tent in order to breathe, rather that the condensation was an issue. I like the idea of sewing in a mesh panel but I dont know how I would accomplish it. I think I will try putting the rain-fly on and opening the doors/windows to see if the ventilation is improved. Couldn't hurt, right?

A question for those of you who own these.
Do you pack the bedding/sleeping bag inside?
I hear a lot of recomendations to add thicker foam, how does it pack when you do that?
