Thank you for checking this out, This build came together as a way to showcase products for a T.V. series that I am currently working on. The idea was to show people the technology that goes into modern off-road race vehicles and how you could apply products to a passenger vehicle to make it more effective off-road.

The Truck:

When I received this “donor” vehicle it had a blown motor and the previous owner had disassembled the original motor and left it for dead. This is a 2008 Toyota Tacoma TRD Prerunner. its currently a 2wd vehicle however it will be converted to 4x4 soon.

So the first order of business was to source a motor. I contacted the guys over at California Mini Truck Dismantlers, and with in a few days I had a clean, inspected, and ready to drop in used motor with 30k miles on it. It was pulled from a wrecked truck. I paid $2550 for the motor delivered to the shop in Long Beach where I will be working on the truck.

After a few days of work here she is:

This was one of the easiest plug and play motor installs that I have ever done. It was so simple, and after adding fluids it started right up! A few of the benefits of having to put this motor in are I am now very comfortable working on it, and I have a complete set of good spares! Hoses, hardware, sensors, coil packs, and thermostat.

After I got the truck running the next thing was to give it a good deep cleaning and start installing some of the goodies that have been piling up.

As you can see it was pretty filthy:

Now the fun part! after a solid cleaning, I installed the Wet Okole seat covers. These things were a tight fit and are so nice!

Next was the TruckVault rear Drawer system. I had built a platform in my last 4-runner and I love the functionality of it. After seeing this TruckVault System on a really kitted out Tacoma at this years SEMA I knew I had to have one! This system will work great for camera and trail gear, along with a camper shell its a perfect match!

What happened to the original motor? Glad you found a solid motor to use though.
Those truck vaults look solid, too.

From what I can gather the PO must have lost the belt and didn't stop. Ran it until it overrated and blew. I was amazed that someone could kill one of these motors in less then 100k miles!

The TruckVault is solid! very sturdy and really well built.
