Hey all,
Quick thing about us:
My name is Brennan, 22 years old, heavy passion for jeeps, dogs, and anything outdoors. I will be the one primarily posting on here due to him not caring for forums.
Brothers name is Alex, but commonly referred to as baker since that is his last name. (1/2 Brothers) 23 years old, loves anything outdoors and dogs(Hunting, Fishing, Snakes, Etc.)
2 Brothers from Dallas, Tx with goals to be able to travel for a living. We just recently purchased a Smittybilt Scout Trailer (Hence the thread name Outfitting and not build LOL) and will be doing extensive modifications to be able to support 2 people and two dogs living full time in the trailer. New to the over landing world, not new to Jeeps. I currently have a JKU on one ton axles, 40 inch tires, and built the suspension around it. Not outfitted for traveling accros the country so my brother plans on selling his 2003 Jeep TJ Rubicon and buy a diesel Ford Excursion.
Anyways, we will be modifying this trailer pretty heavily to fit our needs/demands and plan on documenting all of it. Also would love the advice of people that have significantly more experience with this type of work; (what setups do well, what setups fail). We put it together in about 3-4 hours with me (Brennan) primarily doing all of the work. Baker helped out when I needed a helping hand or to hold something.
The trailer is pretty well put together and I am impressed at the quality of this thing! I worked at 4WP for a year and a half and have a lot of experiences with Smittybilt (Good&Bad) but this thing seems really heavy duty, everything fit well, I didn't even have to bust out the drill! We still have quite a bit of fine tuning to do with the trailer; e-brake, wiring in the breakaway controller, and maybe touching up a little bit of paint here and there. We just got back from a weekend in Llano, Tx camping for the weekend with helping Baker's dad furnishing his new office and the tent was pretty comfortable. We do plan on adding a foam topper on top due to it being pretty firm but significantly better than the camping I did as a child! One thing that is a pain is carrying my dog Dodge up and down the ladder but we were thinking of building a fold-able aluminum ramp that he can easily walk up and down.
Anyways, next thing I will be focusing on is on board water and power.
My thoughts is a dual battery setup with also potentially a small solar panel. We plan on being able to charge 2 laptops, 2 cameras, dog collars, 2 phones, provide light for the trailer, water pump and purifier, and probably an electric blanket for myself. (We plan on having a dual alternator setup once we get the Excursion, it was a factory option and the 2nd one would be only wired to the trailer, also it would give us a spare alternator if anything failed)
On water my thought was 30-50 gallon tank with an inline water pump for a shower.
Any thoughts, opinions, and personal experiences would be awesome! We are trying to save as much space as possible and while keeping the weight down would help, we will have a vehicle that can pull it well and expect to be packing LBs on due planning on living out of it. Thanks!
