The design as we go M-101A1 Trailer build

Does the aluminum have a memory like steel?
Can you power pull the top back to shape?

Unfortunately aluminum forgets what it was before the dent so these panels are all toast. luckily I am well-connected at Airstream Los Angeles so I get these panels at a pretty good deal and most of the rivets line up as original. It is lots of work though and they're just so cool. I personally don't do polished airstreams as it is so much upkeep and I just prefer the aluminum tarnished to show its age.

What gauge of aluminum did you use to cover it with?

I used .050. The aluminum isn't cladding ribs but is for lack of a better term 'veneering' the plywood walls so I didn't feel the need to go any thicker. If I were to clad to ribs I probably would've gone 080. Maybe the next one. I have another popup trailer frame that I might use my dexter torflex on and build as a teardrop or maybe even go crazier on that build depending on how this one turns out

Have the trailer in a bunch of pieces now. I laid down the trailer subfloor and am just eagerly awaiting the axle that will hopefully arrive next week.

I'll be off for the next four days getting some much needed snow time in Mammoth. Been a sad year but the just got a 4' dump and it's time to use my season pass! Gonna miss working on the trailer though. It's almost ready for its maiden voyage

Axle finally arrived from dexter and of course I'm too busy with work to do anything about. Hoping for something to come through on weekend so I can drop this in but I've got to be installing cabinetry starting next week. Will see

All I gotta say is what a pain in the *** getting the 101 axle off!

If anyone questions the power of rust and fusing two materials together this will help you cast no more doubt.

The center pins where fused to the axle spring seats almost making me think someone had welded everything together. Hammers, prybars and anything we could throw at it were useless. Just had to jack up the trailer higher and loosen the spring pins and sure enough with A LOT more hammering the axle dropped out. Once out the new dexter sat perfectly only after having to replace the center pins since they were still fused to the spring seats. Now I can finally start putting the trailer back together and finalizing everything for a maiden voyage . There is still a lot to do but hopefully all will go smoother from here on out
