The design as we go M-101A1 Trailer build

I love the fact that you overcame the welding of aluminum by just using angle brackets. If I rebuild my lid, I may go that route. Wish I had thought about that. Nice job!

Thanks. I knew that using the 3M VHB tape and overlapped corners that the sheet metal would help unify the frame into one solid shell. It may have taken the same amount of time if not more than welding to rivet with angle brackets but after spending a lot of time with airstreams it's just something I know the most. I'm a big fan of the Schutt Industries method of construction. If you haven't seen their promotion video check it out

The Schutt Industries trailers are incredible. I have one. Too bad the Huck bolt tool is so expensive.

Sorry for crappy shots but wheel well welding day today. Have meeting over at Airstream LA with a new trailer client so have to work somewhat quickly.

Maybe more work than making new ones but didn't want to waste the m-101 wheel wells. They extend out beyond the side steps to cover the whole wheel . I liked a little tighter profile on the steps

As much as I have invested in woodworking tools one of my unfortunately most unused investment is the welder. Gonna have to change that. Welding pics are cool

Got the fender wells rhino'd and trailer lights mounted. The side markers came from the original m-101 but weren't LED so I took apart the harbor freight units and mounted the LEDs in to the cooler looking side markers. Now just waiting for the 7way distribution box to arrive so I can get it all wired up.

First trip will be memorial weekend up to the mammoth lakes area. I probably won't have my articulating hitch on just yet so it'll be light dirt roading with the 2" ball. Just want to see how she tows on the highway more than anything.

It's been and adventure the past four months building this thing so hopefully I'll be able to get her on the road with very few hitched (pun intended)

Looks very cool. When the wiring is done haul it outside for a full walk around photo shoot.

Ps: I still think it would look awesome mirror polished.

I'll do that for sure. It certainly would be one of a kind off road to polish it...probably be able to see it via satellite when it's out boon docking. If anything I wouldn't polish it because of the upkeep on polishing but maybe wrap in chrome vinyl. I know that goes against the principles of polishing but seeing what my friends have to go through with their Airstreams to keep that mirror shine makes me cringe...most of them give up

Well come out towards vegas and we can go on trail ride and blind each other :)

Was actually gonna do charleston for memorial but all the campsites are full...unless you have secrets to dispersed camping up there since it's national forest?

I do actually! But its on the backside of the mountain. Only problem is your not able to access the hiking trails. There is also a really nice area east of the 95 from charleston for camping also. PM if your interested. We are heading to Death Valley friday-monday.

Also got the locking latch from the coleman pop up donation pile mounted. Took some magic to get it to fit but works great. Now gotta make some copies of the key because I only have one

Getting everything as far as brakes and lights wired up today. Because we park in the shade most if the time I will keep the solar panel and battery pack on the truck as we usually drive off during the day to go climbing so I probably won't need to tap into the trailers 12v power for anything at the moment.

Once I get the body mounted to the frame she will be ready to roll and we are so close to that.

On a side note did anyone watch the Kings Duck game last night?!?! What a good mood that put me in! GO KINGS GO!!!
