The inspiration thread...

As grandiose a view as I have of my own talents and craving for admiration, (that's a joke) I have to admit that I'm also a huge fan of others work. There are countless amazing photographers out there, but every once in a while I come across a photographer that really makes me go wow. Marc Adamus and Bruce Percy were two of the first photographers that made me sit up and say Holy $h*t!! Almost everyone who follows landscape photography knows who these men are, and both are without question our generations Ansel Adams, or Galen Rowell, but I think there are many others out there who are equally as talented, but are lesser known. So, that said is there someone or some persons who have inspired you lately? If so, please share.

Here are 3 photographers I've recently found that made me sit up and take notice.

1)

Abdullaziz Abdullah Bin Ali: One of the most thoughtful photographers I've seen, period. Every image of his is of a quality so high that it bloggles the imagination. From landscape to portraiture his work will blow your mind.

2)

Ursula I Abresch: A creative photographer who's work simply has to be seen to be appreciated.

3)

Daria Endresen: A gorgeous self portrait photgrapher who's images are both beautifully mesmerizing and thought provoking. She also gets bonus points for being a big fan of Tolkien.

Great links Trevor- I've got to say Ursula's work is very inspiring, even though I don't gravitate to that kind of image making myself.

I often find that about "inspiring" work- it's usually completely different (and far more advanced :)) from my style of picture taking

Anyway, here's a Finnish photog's site I stumbled upon the other day. Mikko Lagerstedt

For me, what's most interesting and inspiring, is to actually hear how they make their images. Sometimes very simple. Take Ursula's fan of purple. All she did was fan out some paper in front of her iMac screen at startup, set up her camera making sure her focus plane matched that of the papers edge for maximum sharpeness and depth, and voila. It doesn't get any simpler really, but the resulting image is anything but.

I don't know the name of any photgrapher, but perhaps I should start becasue this stuff is hard and addicting,. I though I could just buy a sweet %^^ camera and snap a ton of pics and some of them would turn out great.. but that just isn't happening.. I need to lear the field of depth thing, oh lighting too, And timing.

Well, speaking of inspiration for me a t least... is simply this.

Thought I'd share a couple of links in this thread again. I often get inspired by hearing about what inspires others. I found this little video on youtube while searching for tips on natural light photography. Some simple but important reminders from veteran travel photographer Bob Holmes. I've enjoyed seeing his portraiture in various magazines through the years, as I'm sure many of you have. I liked this little comment in particular : The camera always seems to get in the way of good photography

Another great one in the series- I love how she struggles to express what "good light" is. So much is sometimes just a gut feeling.
