The Search Begins

Hello all,

Been lurking here for a while, soaking up all the info I can and admiring the good work so many are doing with their own rides.

I've started the search for a 94-97 SR or Gen 2.5 and am making contact with a few folks in the southeast on CL. I drove an '84 FJ-40 in college and sold it about 15 years ago (like a **************). I started looking at 80 series LC's a while back but have determined that the gas mileage and "Landcruiser premium" aren't worth paying when the Montero offers such a great alternative. Also looked at Troopers but the Montero seems better in every way.

I plan on mainly trail riding and expedition style offroading with my kids and friends, more than rock crawling.

I've done a pretty exhaustive search using searchtempest/autotrader etc and am continuing to search while I contact folks. Seems to be an abundance of LS's out there but I'm trying to get the lockers.

If anyone has any leads on something within a reasonable distance from GA let me know. I hope to start a build thread soon!

Thanks!

Thanks Yugo, I've had that one on my radar. I emailed him about it 2 days ago and haven't gotten a response.

Yeah, his response time is generally a couple of days. If you talk to him, let him know Steve in Columbus referred you to him. Maybe I'll get a commission!:wings:

Found a great 95 SR, low miles on rebuilt engine, paperwork available, price is right, but clear coat has been ruined on hood and top from "sitting under an apple tree".

Any fixes for this? Paint it over with bedliner?

Yes, sand it down and paint it over. I wouldn't use a bedliner unless it was UV stable or you'll have worse issues. In addition to screwed up paint, the whole surface will no longer be smooth.

For over landing, a flat black hood seems all the rage although a good friend who knows all about painting vehicles said it would be better to apply a flat black decal instead of paint since flat black paint doesn't wear very well.

nice 95. stop looking for 94's. i have 2, and both are not equipt with the locker, sunroof, leather, 3 way shocks, etc... only things making it SR are the 3.5 DOHC with accompanied larger trans, and the flares. otherwise, it is an LS. id jump on the 95. you will love the montero! i do!
