The TP thread...

Come on, seriously... $4.25 for two rolls of biodegradable TP? Someone please tell me the best place to get biodegradable TP. I usually follow the "pack it in, pack it out" philosophy but sometimes you find yourself in situations where that is not always possible so I would like to be prepared.:ylsmoke:

Also, what type of biodegradable dish soap, shampoo, and body soap does everyone use and the best place to get it?

Isn't all TP biodegradable?

Our "ant-club" has adopted a policy of always packing everything out, so the type of paper is not critical. I just bring whatever we have in the house.

As for soap, I use the Dr. Bronner's for everything. You can get small bottles at REI, but I got a big bottle at Costco a few years ago, and doubt I'll ever have to purchase again. Side benefit-you smell like peppermint for a few hours after use!

Camping World usually has better prices on the the TP you need. Dr. Bronner's rules and we use it for everything except dishes, in which case we use the REI stuff that will sud up in salt water too. You can buy the Dr Bronner's, peppermint or non scented, direct by the gallon and that should last you many years

Just keep in mind even "biodegradable" doesn't necessarily mean it goes away. Bio soap is fine as long as it, like all soap, stays out of streams, lakes, ponds, etc.

I fear some folks buy/use bio anything and then throw caution to the wind in how/where they use these products. You still need to be judicious using any products particularly out in the wilds.

Sorry for the rant...this conversation could morph into a whole website topic in and of itself :Wow1: .

No worries, did not view it as a rant. But you are absolutely correct about everything you stated. We are heading out on a 6 day trip and I wanted to be as environmentally friendly as possible just in case, planning for the worst so to speak.

So this Dr. Bronner's stuff... will my wife like it? Can I buy it locally anywhere? I don't have a Costco membership and to drive to the closest REI would be a waste of fuel.

i tottally agree. less is more, know what i mean? biodegradable, recycled/able, carbon credits etc. don't neccessarily mean guilt and impact free.

Usually, whole/natural food stores carry Dr. Bronner's....I prefer the almond over the peppermint....
