The watch (timepiece) thread

I just picked up one of these from Suunto, we'll see how it holds up. Love the watches.

Hope I posted this photo right.
Have been using the Suunto for over a year now. Great piece. Particularly like the alti/barometer function.

Man jewelry... watches are a boy's best friend.

Suunto Vector - I've had the same one for 10 years, replaced the battery twice, been around the world, desert and alpine tough, printed numbers and brand worn off the case and band; looks motivating - true expeditionary gear.

Marathon Diver's Quartz - equally tough when I feel analog-ish and withstood the same abuses as the Suunto; the workhorse.

Omega Seamaster - 25th wedding anniversary present (5 years ago), worn when I feel rougue-ish or get gussied up.

Old stand-by auto-winders I've picked up in Indonesia and Japan for a pittance (coup d'etat and favorable dollar to yen) and had for a couple decades now - Seiko Diver's watches Model 6309 and 7002.

I'm a watch fan and have quite a few but I particularly like my Rolex Sub date, GMT II (Pepsi bezel), and Omega Speedmaster professional. All in SS.

I used to wear a Casio or SA watch for camping but in recent years have usually defaulted to the Sub. It is a watch designed to take it and I don't do extreme stuff where the watch is likely to get damaged in any event.

"Wow!!! That thing is huge"
That what she told me last night.....:Wow1:
I just got this one. That is not my daily wearing watch. I have a 15 yrs old Swiss Army Maverick that I wear everyday.

HI All,
Interesting thread. I am amazed at how many folks here wear watches without a chronograph function. I have 12 good watches and every one has at least a chronograph. I would never buy a watch without one.

My two favorite everyday watches are the Breitling B1 and the Omega Speedmaster Professional X33. These are what are referred to as Pilots watches. I'm not a pilot but the wide range of functions are useful.

I also have a antique Omega Speedmaster Profesional Moon Watch which must be wound everyday. This is probably my favorite watch. I also have three additional Breitlings and several Citizen ECO drive chronographs. Two of my Breitlings are mechanical.

I too love Swiss watches but the Japanese watches are impressive.

However, when out in the garage pushing wrenches, I wear my trusty 30 year old Seiko digital. It just keeps ticking on and on and on and...........................

Is this just 'eco drive' ? This looks like a perfect everyday watch for me. I'm looking for a model number or anything more specific.

I've got some nice tool watches, OMEGA and Rolex in particular, but since I purchased this some months ago it's been about the only daily-wear watch on my wrist. I modded mine w/ some domestic Casio Pathfinder bits so it now accepts NATO straps.

Casio Pro Trek (PRG-240-1JF) 'Tough Solar'. Excellent watch. Purchased from http://c-watch.co.jp/ww/prg240.html in Tokyo, a small family shop I HIGHLY recommend for those 'Made in Japan' watches not generally available here in the states.

I love a good watch. It is like porn to me.
I am a big Breitling fan. I mostly wear a Super ocean Model A13320. I love this watch. breitling-superocean-heritage-chronograph.jpg
I have 4 other Breitlings, a Rado, 2 rolexs, and a few other watches I have picked up over the years.
I am also a big suunto fan as well. They make a very tough timepiece.

Just got done reading through this whole thread and thought it needed revived. I've always relied on the cheapest Casio I can find, mainly because I'm so abusive to watches. I haven't worn a watch sine I left the USAF two years ago, but since I'm about to finish my college degree, I thought its about time to start wearing a watch again. I don't need something super tough or super disposable. (I still have several of those casios with
broken bands to use up) I'd just like a nice work watch so I don't have to keep pulling out my phone.
This is one that caught my eye. They only thing I don't like is the rubber wrist band as I do have a preference for cloth bands, but I think I can get over that. The only bad reviews I've seen on it have to do with its water resistivity. I guess most people would assume that a watch that's rated as "water resistant to 30 M" wouldn't have a problem with getting wat, but apparently it does. Is that normal?

30 meters is basically considered rain proof. Probably a good watch if you are careful of water. Things like showers, hot tubs and swimming where the watch may impact the water are killers of 30 meter watches.

I'm okay with digital, but I have to actually read the time as opposed to just glance at the hands to tell the time
