I just hit a big deer at 30 mph. It made a big sold thunk and the deer slid of to the side of the road . the Montero did well it only broke the plastic grill some and that's it. No major damage at all. I had the wife and 8 month baby in the car and we drove away fine. Not sure things would have been the same in her tdi.

I hit a deer at 60 mph once in a gen 2 and the grill and radiator had to be replaced, There is something to be said for the safety of SUV's in the northwest at least, the tdi it could have gone through the windshield.

I'm pretty sure it would have...maybe insurance would have totaled it though and we could get out of this recall/ class's action lawsuit thing we are now stuck in.
