Thinking about a lift...

Ok you guys, another question. :ylsmoke:

I'm looking to lift my XJ a little, no more than 3", and Im not sure which system to run. At the moment, I stuck between a Daystar Budget Boost (Shackles and Spacers), or a Rubicon Express 2.5" lift, with spacers and add a leafs. There is about a $100 price difference, but thats "negligible".

Wqhat do you guys think?

Personally, I'd say go with the lift that gives you brand new leaf springs and coil springs and shocks and stuff. Budget boosts are nice, but if you intend to put it to use don't skimp on the necessary components. I have a Rusty's 2 inch budget boost which only came with new coil springs and an add-a-leaf, but I got new leaf packs from a friend who could provide them to me at cost. What ever your budget is, get the absolute best you can for that dollar amount.

I"d like to get new leaf packs, but that makes a $255 dollar lift turn into a $500 lift. I looked at Summit Racing, and I could assemble a bastard lift of sorts, using Pro-Comp leaf springs ($161.99) for 3 inches rear, and some Rancho, or Superlfit coils for 3 inches in the from, and those are about $100. So for $420, I'd get lifts springs for 3 inches. I don't know. I may just assemble a junkyard bastard lift. F150 coils and Dakota leafs are supposed to net you about 2.5 to 3 inches.

For what it's worth, I'm not satisfied with my hybrid leaf pack. It didn't get me lift I was expecting it to and I ended up needing longer shackles anyway. Also, since the leafs are different spring rates with different curves to them, I'm noticing some troubling wear patterns.

I say get the smallest full spring replacement system you can. Yeah, it's probably 3"-3.5" but the ride will be better and you're likely to have less regrets. You could even modify a full spring system to be shorter than advertised. Just be careful to do it right.

Good luck with your decision.:smiley_drive:
