thinking of converting from toyota to jeep, need some info...

So, I've been in the toyota scene for a few years now and built up a couple vehicles (3rd gen 4runner, 97 40th anniv LC, 08 trail team fj (wife's and is stock, but still well equipt)). I've admired jeeps for a while but just never seriously thought of going in that direction...then I watched a video on the 2012 jeep wrangler rubicon unlimited with front and rear lockers and 4 doors and thought that might just be a nice change.

what I need to get clarification on is if there are any other jeep models that come with factory front and rear lockers. That is an important option to have on a offroad vehicle and one of the reasons I chose our 97 LC. I already know that I can get aftermarket lockers so no need to point that out, I just really like the fact that a vehicle is made from the factory with front and rear lockers, and the v6 engine in the newer jeeps seems to pump put some power as well...not to mention all of the aftermarket lift and accessory options.

Thanks for any info and your time!

The Wrangler & Wrangler Unlimited, when equipped with the Rubicon package are the only models that come with OEM front and rear lockers.

And they're not the greatest of lockers either. They're durable through 35s and start getting questionable at 37" tires

Otherwise they're an excellent option to consider

If you're looking for used there's a slight chance you'll find a special order 2007 X model with a factory rear locker. I don't think they continued that option beyond the initial build year for the JK.

That's goes for factory 4.10 gears on limited numbers of X models too. I loved the 4.10 and rear locker in my 07 2 door. Lucked out and got it off the lot that way in November of 06. I think if I had it to do over again I would have found a 08, 09 Rubicon Unlimited instead of my 2012 Sport Unlimited, No matter what people say about the new motor or how much I like the new dash.

In addition to the lockers, stronger axles, lower gearing, and sway bar disconnects, the Rubicon also comes with a great low range transfer case, better driveline angles, etc.... Yes, you pay quite a bit more, but unless you are going to replace the transfer case and axles, it's usually cheaper to start with a Rubi than starting with an X and building it up.

Thanks for the info guys! The only other factor is that it needs to be able to seat 5 which the four doors should do.

Five what? I don't think the jeep is ever been characterized as large and capacious, But neither is a Tacoma or 4runner for that matter. Maybe you need a full-size tundra LOL

We fit five in our JKU but the rear seat is two children (one in a rather large car seat) and a 98lb. Mother in Law. But they do fit quite comfortably.

FYI

The rear center seat of our '12 JKUR is totally unsupported - no frame, no webbing, nothing but fabric. It might, might be OK for a child, but I'm not gonna put an adult there. If your planning on 3 adults or older kiddos, it would also be really tight.
