This site is evil.. (Brute + Chinook?)

Its not like I don't have enough projects on the brain. I've got my WRX that needs its 100k maint (fuel rails, filter, timing belt, water pump, struts/coil overs, and a new tune) and the Jeep needs 4.88s and a rear locker.

Then some dude has to post up a photo of a 4x4 chinook

And that gets me to thinking.... I need that box on one of these:

I've been dying to build a brute for a quite a long time, but a 2 seater pickup hasn't been in the cards with the pup. Didn't realize the chinook's were setup as a pass through.

This might just breath some more life in the 'getting a bit small' and aging TJ :)

But I've also got a bigger M725 to build that will do nearly the same thing.

Evil, Evil site.

You are so right, Jason.
This site has me dreaming of vehicles I would never have thought of before.
The most practicle one for me at the moment is figuring a way to aquire an 03-05 Dodge Diesel 4x4 Quadcab with a FWC or similar camper towing an XJ for side trips....unfotunately current financial obligations don't give such an option. But I can dream

Yeah.. its always the fiscal issues there isn't it :)

The problem for me is that I've always wanted a brute, but there's never been a good reason to build one. I've always needed the back of the TJ to have the dog with me.

The nice thing about this setup is that it will do tighter smaller trails.

It would also carry the dog (and soon dogs) better than current.

The Tj's drivetrain (after I do the 4.88s and locker in the next few weeks) could handle it just fine.

I've got the tools/skills to do this, and most of a place to do it.

!#@$!@#$!#$

Damn you chinook, and Damn Dave @ AEV for building a kit like that.

very true.. I have no desire to deal with a carbed 22re truck :)

I'd grab a 22re FI 4x4 as a beater pickup in a heartbeat though..

This is more like the excuse to build a brute I've been looking for.

I love the Brute for sure and with the FWC especially but that little 22r in that Chinook did suprisingly well. Even on long grades on the highway I was shocked that he was keeping with traffic. It's no hemi but it works pretty damn well and gets over 15mpg. Someone is going to be psyched who picks that thing up.

If you don't mind a variant of the Chinook line, there's the minor possibility that another of the slide-in Chinooks could be found - link. Perhaps the Brute box is about the same size as a Luv box. I've run across a couple ads of this version in recent years while trying to dredge up Chalet & Casa Grande ads.....

eh just find an 85 4runner with the EFI and solids. remove the top and start building :) Better than the chinook

I had a 4x4 Luv of that vintage. Cool little truck, but pretty gutless.

However, a guy once told me that those trucks have wider frame rails than other mini trucks of that vintage, so it's easier to drop a V6 or V8 in 'em. He was running a Buick V6 in his.
