Hi guys,

New here and thought I would just introduce myself.

The name is Martin & I am currently preparing for a London to Cape Town expedition next year.

I expect I will have a load of questions about Overland Trailers. Currently deciding on buying something or designing my own.

Well, here is a picture of my old boy - Larry.

Welcome! with a trip like than in the planning, you've come to the right place! You should start a thread on this site to keep us posted. Quite a few trans-Africa vets here (not myself unfortunately).

Welcome to ExPo Martin!:wavey:

I wish we could find a name for our truck that would stick.

Is your trip a solo one, or are there other occupants of your lovely Landie?

Thanks for the welcome guys!

I am trying to talk my girlfriend into doing the trip with me. It has taken a couple of years of trying, but I think I am getting somewhere now.

I will be shooting across Europe fairly quickly (< 1 week) and catching a ferry from Southern Italy to Egypt. My route will mainly take me down the Eastern "side" of Africa.

If I could afford to do so, I would ideally like to begin the trip from Southern Spain, crossing into Morocco & south through the Western Sahara into Mauritania & around the "fat" part of Africa, joining up with the other route somewhere around Sudan.

It took Graham a couple of years to convince me to do the trans-Africa trip too. As long as she has a firm grasp on the difficulty of the trip (which from her hesitation it sounds like she does) I think she will find that it won't be as tough as she thought. It's good that she started out with some trepidation, because it's much easier to work through worries and fears in the comfort of your own home than in the middle of nowhere.
