thought this video was pretty interesting

That was a pretty good couple of videos.
He did however sort of say that the necessary use of lockers on the TLC was a negative over the Rover's use of traction control.
I can't agree at all especially when they both mastered the same obstacles.

I was a little clueless with his thought process on that issue...

El Gringo Spectacular!
Very good, and very fairly balanced.

I think the point I got was...both are great rigs! I'd certainly drive either in a heartbeat!

Cool video both are sweet rigs!
I wish I could have either of them... :safari-rig:
I would love to have a 70 series!

For the record its an HZJ76 Land Cruiser

That four door design on the Cruiser is one I have never been too fond of but the functionality is growing on me. The Defender wins the beauty contest by a mile, I think. It's unfortunate that Africa doesn't get the 1VDFTE or even the 1HDFTE. Diesels really need a turbo or two.

I'd be thrilled to own either.

Those were entertaining video series.

Interesting, the video praising handling in 4wd on the cone course to me showed the truck going slower and understeering a ton versus the same truck going faster through the cones in 2wd then spinning out. First off I agree that in 4wd you can steer out of a slide easier no doubt but true 4wd exhibits massive push tendencies in cars and trucks and is the primary reason that it wasn't untill Audi pioneered center diff technology that 4wd cars started to handle well. Still though, it took some time for them to get to where they are today. It also appeared that the driver could have steered out of the slides a bit if he wanted to, but rather stayed hard on the gas as the truck came around in the 2wd demonstration

Anyway, thanks for posting the video up.

Kind of a stupid statement when he says:

"my conclusion is that- if it wasnt for the front diff lock on the landcruiser--offroad performance of the Landrover is better....."

Sorta like saying----if the toyota didnt have its front wheels on---the offroad performance of the Landrover is better than a front wheel-less landcruiser.

Its also sorta dumb that they showed the LC tackling a hill with diff locks off as if to say "look it sucks without the diff locks on". (similar to saying---look-we took off the wheels---now see how it sucks compared to the Landrover)

What would have been more interesting is to tackle tougher and tougher obstacles and see how the Diff locks compare to the traction control system of the defender............... my guess is the defender would have shown its weakness.

Obviously this dewd loves his Landrover but cant face reality without removing the wheels of another vehicle to prove his vehicle is better.......

i cant wait for his next video------" look without gas--the Landcruiser is no match offroad for the Landrover with gas"..hehe---

Sorry this guy is an knobtwister--lets call a spade a spade here folks.

He owns the white Land Cruiser in the test and has owned Defenders too. I think his point is that the Defender is a better off-roader than the TLC if diff-locks were not a consideration. Differential locks are an option on the TLC, while traction control is standard on the Defender.

in part 2 of his video - it clearly shows the Landrover struggling and eventually making the climb---whereas the Landcruiser (in lock mode) doesnt even hesitate where the Landrover had multiple hesitations-traction breaks-lack of forward momentum.

In the end he tries to equate the locked TLC with the landrover when clearly the Landrover is the one that "keeps up" with the locked cruiser. Maybe he has done some poor editing and omitted some footage--but clearly from the footage given--the locked cruiser wasnt struggling anywhere near the way the LR was on an albeit tough successful climb for the LR.

It would have been far more interesting to see how the two fared against each other in increasing levels of difficultly to the point that we could actually see how the LR traction compares to diff locks a bit more clearly possibly highlighting each versions advantages and shortcomings.

Traction control and diff locks are two different animals so an apples to apples comparison is just silly. Heck, I've taken my truck to the same obsticle on different occasions and had different results. They are both cool trucks that I'll never get to own here in the U.S. so that's the bottom line for me. The guy has an opinion like all of us, cool video too.

I've reviewed the footage in slow motion and found numerous flaws in his logic and test methods.

Please instruct him to ship both vehicles to North Carolina for a proper, extended, and scientifically valid field test. I promise to send them both back in 5 years, complete with charts and graphs.
