Time for a replacement?

Nothing around here in that budget. We have rust free, imported from the south, Excursions around 5000.

When I'm older, with a full time job, etc, that'd definitely be an option. I already have a clean car though so the truck is supposed to fill the beach beater position.

It doesn't have too much rust, nothing I'm not used to I'd say, the tahoe is 4x4, but it's got some issue preventing it from going into 4x4. Doubling the budget isn't really an option for me, since I'm a college student.

So what is keeping it from going into 4wd? From what I've seen it's usually one of two things: The encoder motor which is a ~$200 part and maybe a couple of hours in the driveway or the dash switch which is a $40 part and 10 minutes to swap out.

I'm thinking it may be the actuator, however I can hear the actuator moving when 4hi is engaged. and the transfer case shifts into 4lo as well, either it's the actuator, the front diff, or maybe both front hubs are shot? Either way I wouldn't mind the upgrade to the suburban, the interior is much cleaner, headliner is in good shape too.

Does the beach beater need to tow/haul?

A jeep Yj/tj fills that role. They'll be beat in that price range, but they work ok while most of the suspensions and joints are fubar. On that note xj's are the best cheap beaters ever.

Ideally needs to pull a single car trailer, I'm going to be towing my mustang to a few events this coming season.
