Tire Carrier Locking Pin

My tire carrier swingouts are getting rebuilt. I didn't like the locking mechanism I had and the trailer spindles failed miserably. Upgrading to the 4x4labs spindles and gas struts. I'd like to copy the locking mechanism on Colorado Ron's swingouts. I sent Ron a message, but while I'm waiting to hear back from him, I thought I would get other people's opinion on what to use for the spring-loaded locking pins. Any ideas? My google searches didn't come up with anything.

Here is a pic of the locking pins on Ron's swingouts.

1/2" pin made from drill rod or a cut down bolt, drill a hole in the side for a split/spring pin for a handle

tubing that the 1/2" pin will fit inside of, cut a slot in the tubing for the "handle" of the pin, use a split pin (spring pin) for the handle

compression spring to put on top of the 1/2" pin, inside the tube, split pin in the slot keeps it all together

weld where you want it, mark the base plate, and drill your detent holes

Thanks a bunch! That all makes perfect sense.

good, I was worried as I was typing it that it wouldn't make a bit of sense lol

to make it extra fancy, you could cap off the top of the tube (like they did in the pic) and add a zirc grease fitting on the side to keep it lubed
