Tire question

i bought this 4runner back in July with 110k miles, it had fairly new Cooper AT3 (still had the rubber hairs). So currently i have 133k miles and the tires looks this!

I'm taking three weeks off the spring/summer and going to Moab. So should i replace these tire before i go? What would of caused all of this chunking? i haven't driven on rocks or gravel just dirt roads and pavement!

How old are the tires? Have you looked at the manufacture date?

I wouldn't worry about the damage to the tread blocks. Dirt roads will do that, especially at speed. With that manufacture date, they're quite fresh and shouldn't be anything to worry about. If you put some more pavement miles on them, that should help the surface appearance of the tread blocks but I don't think their current surface condition is a concern at all. That might even be a help for snowpack traction.
