Tire size (another one)

I've been trying to find out what my tire options are on a stock rim setup on my 94 ls. Will 33's fit, and how wide can you go on the stock rims before rubbing is an issue? I would love to get some steel 15x8 rims and get some 33"x10.5 but worry about rubbing without a lift.

On my old 89 Montero, and on my current 2000 Montero I have had no problems with 32 x 11.5, or 33 x 10.5. No lifts. My 2000 now has OME suspension, but that didn't lift it much. Tires would still fit. Any larger and gearing becomes an issue. Hope that helps.

IIRC, the stock gen II rim (aluminum one) is 7" wide which means you can fit up to a 10 or maybe even 11" wide tire but it's best to check what the manufacturer of the tires you're looking at say in their spec sheets.

Myself, I've run 31x10's on the stock 7" rim on a gen I LS. The gen II I went straight to a 35x12.5 BFG KM2 MT tire so I used my 15x8 rims even though BFG recommends a minimum 8.5 or 9" rim IIRC. Again, check the manufacturers recommendation for the minimum wheel/rim width.

As far as fitting into the wheel well, IIRC 32's will fit with an appropriate rim so best I can suggest is having the shop test fit them for you.

i have stock aluminum rims with 33/1050. no rub at all.

laoutbacktrail is running the same wheels with 33/1250, and i believe no rub.

mine is a 94, his i think 95.

I run Federal 31x10.5x15's on my Gen1. Upon actual measurement they come up only to 30 in.
I read in other threads that tires are undersized. If I put 32's then i reckon I will get an actual 31 inch tire height.
33's would give an ideal (for me) 32 inches tire height. This would increase the overall ground clearance of the rig.

What do the experts think?

Actual tire sizes vary with the tire model/brand but are usually smaller than stated. How much smaller depends on the model tire.

That said with my gen 1 fit 32" BFG MT's km's (not km2) with some slight rubbing on the bumpers rubber ends until it wore them down enough so they wouldn't rub anymore. I suspect with 33's the extra 1/2" in radius will force you to trim the stock bumper back or replace it with one with greater clearance.

BFG 33 x 9.5 x 15 all terrains fit on my 92' with no rubbing, after the torsion bar crank. These pizza cutters fit well and look proportional. I'm assuming your LS doesn't have flares like the SR's. The stock 15 x 6" wheels work well. As far as steering goes, lock to lock without rubbing. Best of all, I got them for $220 on CL and sold the tires that came with the truck for $175. Sold the rims, that came with the 33's, for $30.

Here they are next to the 265/75/16's on our 4-runner:

Not really here
I run 32 11.50 15 pro comp mud terrains with stock rims on my 95 LS. Have some slight rubbing on my front sway bar right side when I turn hard left but other than that they fit perfect. I moved up from 31 10.50 bfg all terrains and the difference visually is night and day. Same for the performance off road.

I don't suppose you have a pic you can share? Also what lift do you have? Thanks
