Tire swing out gas can carrier

Decided to see if I could take an old bike rack and convert it to a swing our tire carrier and holder for gas cans. Here's the progress so far.

Great idea, but do you think it will hold up to the weight? Wheel and tire plus 10 gallons might be pushing it. I really like the way it swings out though.

Seems to be holding up. When its closed there is a bar attached to one side that slides in to the other and locks. Keeps it pretty stable and solid.

Innovative idea. Really like how it extends rearward instead of to the side. I've never seen a bike rack that extended out like that. Our own just has a pull pin and the whole armature tilts down the ground.

If those pivot pins rivet-head / peened in place I'd suggest replacing them with some sleeved hardened bolts.
