I currently run Goodyear 235/75 R15's and am in need of new tires. I have a basic 2 inch lift and was wondering what people recommend for overland adventures. Should I stick with 235 just get a real good tire or should I step up to 30x9.5X15?

Im running 235/75/15's on my XJ, with no lift. I've got a set of GT Radial Adventuro M/Ts, and I love 'em. They ride great on the street (about 25 PSI) and the do pretty well offroad too. I havent really abused them yet, but Im hoping to do so over the summer.

I've also run a set of 30x9.50's with the same stock suspension set up. Personally, I prefer the 235's. They're lighter, work better with my suspension, and I all around like them more.

So this was jsu tmy long winded way of saying to stick with the 235's, and just get a good tire. :sombrero:

235's on stock gears and a 2" lift should work great. Just find an A/T or M/T that fits the budget and other requirements you might have, like noise, ride, tread life, etc.

I had 30's on stock gears and while not terrible, it just didn't have the snap of smaller tires. I've since gone to 31's and really want to re-gear to 4.11's. It's a bit of a snowball effect.

On my 2000 with just basturd leafpack and 2" puck in front I run 31" BFG AT's. I also tow an off road trailer. I have put increased bump stops and I have little issues.

I do not try and crawl it or anything but it's great on backroads.

My 1987 has 3" lift and I run 32" MT's but hadt to cut wheel wells.

I run a 2" ome lift with 235/75 duratracs on my 99 XJ. I would have gone 30x9.50, but they don't make a duratrac in that size. I'm glad I didn't, as I have a feeling I would want to re-gear if I went any bigger. The jump from worn 225/75's to 235/75's was noticeable but quite livable. I've sat my XJ next to others with 30's, and there really isn't a noticeable difference in appearance (if that matters to you). Some people rub the LCA with 30's depending on the XJ / wheel / tire combo.

The overall height difference between a 235 and a 30 is about 0.5-0.6 inches.
That difference will change your vehicles' actual height by only 1/4 inch.
IMO it's not worth it to bother with that minimal improvement for the added weight of the tire, and the 30" size seems like it is becoming less popular, and not produced in as many models of tires as the 235 size.

An no, I don't think there is anything between those 2 sizes.

On my stock '95 I'm running 235's in the Duratracs and they are stuffed in the wheel wells pretty good, no rubbing yet though. I think if I had a heavy load of gear in/on the vehicle I would start getting some rubbing.

I have gone through 4 sets of BFG A/T's on my Jeep for street and light trail tires, started with a set of 30x9.50 when stock and currently run 33x10.50. You WILL NOT find a better all-around tire for the price.

I love my duratracs, they ride so much smoother than AT's. Just go with a 235 because they will be cheaper and better for gas mileage without looking small at all. The ground clearance between the 2 are negligable, but price and weight is a difference
