I know, I'm a Jeep guy and don't belong in this section of the forum, but I' have a real question for FJ guys. I was wondering what you folks with older FJs are running for tires on your stock rims? I'm looking for a narrow tire, like something in the 7.00x15 size. I think older FJs had a similar size tire on them and was wondering what you folks are using?

I found some Copper tires that would work, but was just wondering what else is available: http://www.coopertire.com/html/products/tires_lighttruck.aspx?page=courser_traction_lt

Well, I drive a 4Runner so I guess I shouldn't be here either.:p

I'm not familiar with the Cooper tires, but I've always gone back to the BF Goodrich A/T's. I've used Uniroyals, Dunlops, and countless other brands, but I've always had good experience with the A/T's. They wear well and they seem to last alot longer. Very tough tire. I had one that had at least 10 tire plugs in it and it lasted me several years. I drive my truck to death (100K miles in 3 years) so for a tire to last me that long is amazing.

Most of my driving is on the road with a little off-road every once in a while. Mostly during hunting season. They're good in the mud and the snow, but can get a little slick in the rain, but it could just be Florida's oily roads. Not bashing other brands, but sharing my personal experience.

hercules has a 7.00 x 15 that i'm considering...

its called the hercules hdt. its a bias ply narrow tire. lots of good things have been said about it and its sub $100.00 i think...

http://www.lindertire.com/browse.php?MODEL=HDT

my local tire guy can get them in a day, so no worries on
availability

otherwise i'd go with a

30 x 9.5 x 15 High-tech retread(treadright) ($60.00)

or if i wanted to spend $600.00 for 4, a 30 x 9.5 x 15 bfg all terrain

It does seem that finding 7.00x15 is a tough nut. Dunlop makes a nice 7.00x16 for overseas applications, the RK3. Not sure if that comes in a 15" rim. There are a couple of options, but it seems that going to a 16" rim is really the only way to somewhat easily find implement tires like this.

Buckshot Mudders are available in narrower sizes too.

Stay away from the Kelly Springfield made tires, they are junk! All of those Wild Country variants. They come in some narrow sizes.

Swamper actually makes some narrow tires but they are pretty aggressive.
