Torsion Bar Issues

I'll try to keep this as simple as possible, basically my torsion bars aren't adjusting evenly. I had turned them up months ago, and ended up turning the Left bolt MUCH higher than the Right just to get it close to even. The Right side measurement front the ground to the edge of the fender flare was 36.75" with about 1.75" of adjustment bolt sticking above the nut on the t-bar. Just to get me Left side up to 36" from ground to fender edge, I had to turn up the bolt to where about 3.5" of thread was above the nut on the t-bar. I didn't feel comfortable turning it up more, so I just left it even though it wasn't totally level. Recently, I wanted to get an alignment, so I decided to turn the Left side down to where it matches the 1.75" of the right side. Now it's measuring 36.25" on the Right (which I didn't touch), and 35.25" on the Left side. Any ideas what I should do here? I cancelled my alignment appointment because I don't want to waste $75 before I figure this out. To be clear, I'm driving the vehicle between every adjustment so it settles and I already trimmed my bump stops months ago. My understanding is that the drivers side should be set 1/4" higher than the right to compensate for driver weight too, I don't see how I can even get that close. Any advice would be appreciated.

Looking for that thing i just had in my hand...
#1 Don't worry about the adjuster side, get it level and take it in.
#2 adjust in small increments between good drives (10 miles or so)
#3 Keep in mind the right side T-bar gets the heat of the catalyst(s) so it tends to be weaker/softer/fatigued or replaced before so don't expect both sides to be the same.
#4 lube the threads, if you strip out the nut and it lets go of the adjuster that spring doesn't give a **** about your hand under it. (Right Oso?)

Thanks a lot for the advice, should I worry about over-tightening it? 3.5" of threads seemed a bit excessive. The right side t-bar by the cat actually seems normal, it adjusts evenly without issue. In my case, it's the drivers side that has been a pain. Do they ever get out of adjustment, it's just a bar right? I asked the alignment shop if they re-index bars and they had no idea what I was talking about.
Thanks again!

I mostly want to know what the max the is that the bolt can be tightened while still being safe. I'll probably end up buying OME bars, just want to get this thing close to level for now. I read that cranking the bars up doesn't actually preload them either, it just raises the arm angle and when the arm flexes then the t-bar twists. This was my main concern, I didn't want one really wound up with lots of tension waiting to snap it.
