Tow Package Removal?

I'm selling my van with a tow package and want to remove it to be able to install in another van I'll plan on buying of same make/model/year range. I bought the van used and it came with it. The actual hitch and harness are easy enough to remove, but I'm wondering about the device mounted under the dash? I don't know what it is, but think it has something to do with trailer brakes? Any input is welcome. Thanks.

Its the electric brake controller. Shouldnt be too hard to remove if its an external mount. Slightly more difficult if its a factory in dash mount. From memory theres a couple of power wires, ground wire, brake switch wire. One power wire (red 12ga) will (or should) go to the battery or a power take off. The ground (black) should be connected under the dash to a metal structural piece. The brake switch wire (skinny blue wire i think) will most likely be scotch locked onto the brake light wire coming off the brake pedal switch. The other heavier guage (12ga) wires (a blue and a black I think) will be going back to the 7 pin plug.
Basically stick your head under the dash, find the wires coming off the controller and disconnect them from where they terminate.

Or spend $30 and buy a new one.

Most modern trucks and vans came with the integrated tow setup from the factory and is likely something the person buying your van will want, not to mention your next van likely already has it installed.

I wouldn't waste your time. For one you are going to de-value your van when you sell it, and you also do not know if this stuff will transfer over to what you buy. Like others said there is a good chance the van will already have it also.
