TOWING 98 100 SERIES LAND CRUISER

Anybody have any information on towing a 98 land cruiser on all 4's behind a motor home. I know the official line of the manufacturer is no, but I've been told by several people that if it has a manual transfer case and you put it in neutral and the automatic transmission in park it will be fine. I have a d 90 and have been towing it that way for years without a problem. I've been told that if Toyota has not done any studies or testing on the matter their default position will be no towing with wheels on the ground which it is. I've talked to a half dozen toyota dealers and they have not seen any damaged transmissions resulting from towing, nor do they no of any specific mechanical reason why you can't do it. The transfer case is an oil sump without a pump and lubricates itself with spinning gears. The automatic transmission when in park is locked down all the way to the transfer case and shouldn't need lubrication. Any help on the subject would be appreciated.

There is a guy on mud that did some pretty extensive testing with an 80 series and found that there was no damage and very little heat build up while towing. As far as I know, the drivetrain in the 100 series is similar enough to the 80 that the results should apply. I'll dig around and see if I can find a link, but the long and short of his testing was that he overfilled the transfer case with synthetic oil and was off to the races.
