Towing Electrical Connector Recommendation

I will be installing a new bumper with a 2" receiver. In anticipation of pulling a trailer, I want to hook up an electrical connector. There seems to be many choices for adapters. 4pin, 7pin.....etc.

What seems to be the more common connector? I want to have this wired, but not hard mounted. This will be zip tied up under the body for the very rare occasion I might need to tow something.

7 pin, with a 7pin to flat 4 adapter, then your covered for most trailers.

/\ I think this would be your best bet. A 4 ping covers your taillights, brake lights and blinkers. This is how most smaller trailer will be setup. Larger trailers will have the 7 pin. The extra 3 on the 7 pin cover brakes (you will need an additional controller in the Jeep), backup lights (many trailers don't even have these) and the power to the trailer to charge the battery.

Yes, standard RV plug. As stated they can be adapted to about any thing. If you go the used plug route be sure that it will match the plug on what you are towing. Ford had a better idea in the mid '90s and their own system. Actually 7 pins versus 6 blades and a center pin as in a standard RV unit. Ford would sell you the male end at a high price. No trailers ever came out to match that Ford system. Everybody just changed out the female part and would put in a standard style.
