Toyota Axles on ZJ????

anyone ever thought about running toyota axles on a ZJ?

I had an 85' toyota on 33" with a toyota supra motor and they held up fine. i welded up the rear axle and drove it like that for 5 years. never once broke an axle.

i think my ZJ weighs around 4000 lbs. same as my yota. and with a automatic tranny they should live pretty easily on the Jeep.

what do you guys think?

Why? The D35 in the back is a turd but you can swap in a D44a from a 96+ V8 ZJ it bolts right in and other than the aluminum housing is strong, unless your planning on rock crawling its not really an issue.

I think the best set up for our Jeeps and application is an hpD30(cherokee)/8.8(explorer) both can be found with 4.10's and both are plenty strong. The hp30 is a direct swap the 8.8 is not but its worth it IMO.

Does your ZJ have a tow package?

toy axles are also narrower...however this has been done. Use a tacoma rear and flip the front w/ longer knuckle balls from trailgear.com. You have to cut and turn the knuckles anyway when flipping the housing. Or if price is no matter go for a custom diamond or other fabricated housing and use toy thirds. 98% of all toy 4x4 axles are 4:10...finding a HP30 and 8.8 combo with 4:10's is tough IMO.

Also here is an option (xj though): http://nc4x4.com/forums/showthread.php?t=89586&highlight=cherocruiser
