Toyota ISO - scangauge issue

Have an issue with my 04 dcab that's driving me a bit nutty.

155K miles, CA emission-vehicle. Engine stock (deck plate mod, 2.5" exhaust that I built), timing belt/all tune ups in last 6 months, new rear O2 sensor <6 months ago).

Like my 04 xcab, it has a scangauge 2. As to be expected, when installed, the ABS light flashed quickly. So I had Scangauge send me an ISO-only dongle, as that solved the problem on my xcab.

It fixed the problem for a couple of months. But now it's back. SC2 plugged in, ABS light flashes. Not plugged in, no ABS light.

Plugged in and set to force ISO communications (more-more-force) on the gauge itself. Also doesn't work.

Oddly... I just picked up a p0420 code as well... So I'm guessing I need to start looking at a new cat.

What am I missing?? Any ideas?

Don't know much about the scan gauge as I have a ultra gauge.

Why would the scan gauge cause the abs light to flash? I haven't heard of others having this issue

P0420 is the cat. I been lucky in the last with just replacing o2 sensors with denso units.

Apparently, anything other than ISO confuses the abs computer. Pretty common. But that’s what is causing my confusion.

At 155k, it’s probably the cat....

There are a few different protocols used by vehicle MFG's over the years. Most have solidified on CanBus (basically token-ring for the car... literally). Toyota used ISO for a while.

So the scangauge tries to cover all protocols.. and in some cases, the auto-detecting protocol "technology" will interfere with the ABS computer, causing the abs light to flash.

Hence why scangauge offers an ISO-only cable (essentially some pins removed. like a USB power-only cable, as an example)... And 99.999999% of the time, that solves the problem. Hence my confusion.

Makes sense. Guessing the ISO cable is at additional cost ?

every time I've seen this issue, scanguage has sent the ISO-only cable at no cost. I have 2, neighbor 1... just took a call. gotta give them credit for that.
