i am looking at adding a removable solid box on top of my trailer and was wondering about height. the trailer is 42 inches tall as it sits, with the box on top it will be at 87 inches to the top. the box weight will be very little as it is all aluminium, probably 100 pounds.

my truck is only 70 inches tall. do you think 87 inches is too tall for the trailer?

as a reference a landrover discovery with a 2 inch lift is around 83 inches tall at the back.

You're going to catch some wind with a 17" difference in height. If the trailer won't be used a lot on the road, it may not matter. But if you're planning long distance commutes to the trailhead, then I'd suggest some sort of aerodynamic mod to the front of the trailer to help streamline the airflow.

i can always add a mod for aerodynamics, but i drive a box anyways and i think the windflow just stops dead at my windshield.:)

this will be used on and off road. i can reduce the height of the box but i will lose head room, as it sits i will have 40 inches in height inside, so just enough room to sit up comfortably and move around.

i was thinking of dropping it into the trailer but if i can have it sit on top i have all the space inside the trailer for storage. and also keeping the center of gravity low with the heavy gear underneath.
