Trailer Jack converted for lifting my van?

I'm getting close to doing the lift on my van, and just before I do, I will be adding some sliders that will double as a step rail to help my shorter wife get into the van, so now is the time to settle the details of that design.

I remember seeing some German vehicles (Vanagons and some Mercedes come to mind) that used a vertical tube jack that slotted into a receiver socket at the jacking points. I think I would like to replicate this feature and incorporate some sockets into my rails. I figure I would weld some sort of "male" feature onto one of the heavy-duty weld-on trailer jacks like this one from Northern Tool:

My total curb weight is currently about 4600lbs, I think, so a 5000lb rating for lifting a single corner seems adequate to me.

The stock scissor jack won't work once lifted (its almost too short now, GM apparently designed it to lift just enough to get the stock tire *just* off the ground), but I don't want to have to worry about carrying a hi-lift or heavy bottle jack every day (van is my daily driver, currently). I like the wide foot, and I definitely like the idea of just being able to slide the jack into a socket and start winding the handle...

Thoughts?

Get a good bottle jack with a relatively smaller footprint. Buy a highlift and hilift base for when you go exploring. Use the hilift base as a base for the bottle jack(will provide an additional 1.5" of height). This is what all the LR guys do.

I agree w/ the above.... I dont own a hilift... havent for a few years. I make do with a bottle jack that I tweaked for my needs. drilling 4 holes in the base, and have a section of pre-lam beam that I use as a 2 inch thick, 12x12 footprint when I need it...(the base is being used under the tongue of the boat trailer)....

My truck is just too heavy for a hilift...
