Looking to lift a 2003 Jayco Eagle select 12HW and build a trailer hitch outback to pull triple. Going to run 15'' rims (so installing 2x4 3/16 rectangular) to lift and (installing 2x3 3/16 angle) to box the back half of the frame for the hitch. Stock frame is 14ga so should I box the whole frame? Any input on this idea ?
You going to be off pavement with this setup? If it were me I'd probably box the whole deal.
Dont take offense but most standard campers/fifth wheels/rvs are constructed like they were built by the lowest bidding chinese mom n pop. IOW, like crap.
Odds are the structure of your camper is expected to somewhat add to the rigidity of the frame, and for off road use I dont think its a good idea. Make the frame take as much of the twisting forces as possible and remove the actual camper body from the equation. Most likely it wouldnt hold up in the long run. I wouldnt be afraid to throw in some additional cross members if you're able.
