Trailer tongue - what size square tube?

I want to build my trailer tongue so I can use a removable lunette ring that can be inserted into the tongue of the trailer. What size square tube will accept the 2" shaft of the lunette ring?

Also, I am going back and forth on what size square tubing for my offroad trailer. 2x2x.120 or 2x3x.120. I have seen both used on some of the great trailers here. I would like to keep it as light as possible, but also don't want to worry about it on the trail. Anyone ever have a failure using the 2x2 for the frame?

thanks for any help!

ok, I got smart last night and just measured the square tube on my receiver hitch! Sometimes, I even surprise myself... It measures at 2.5.

Any input on the tubing size for the frame of the trailer?

Thanks

Go with the standard receiver tubing. You can buy it from eTrailer.com. That's where I got mine. You'll have lots of options, when going this direction.

You can get 2 1/2" square tubing from a steel supplier for a lot less money! Trailer hitch tubing is seamless and cost more.
