Trailer ?

Okay, I have been looking for a base camp trailer. Just something that I can pull to the trailhead, campground, whatever, full of all my camp stuff. Tent, kitchen stuff, sleeping bags, etc. i would love to convert an old military trailer, but i want it enclosed as well, that price tag gets high quick. So, I found a small aluminum framed and skinned trailer for what I think is a good price. This will be my first real trailer. What should I look for?ImageUploadedByTapatalk1340685173.000805.jpg

Tough to to measure how functional this unit is. The tongue door seems too big to use when hitched, and having to lift gear out seems a burden. I suppose much depends on what 'gear' you need to stow. My hunch is that if you enjoy this forum, you'd outgrow it pretty quick. But that aint all bad.

Oh I enjoy it enough I need more than the bed of my truck. What you can't see is the side door, and the tongue is super long.

Couple of things I would have to do. The side door has a window that is busted out, it was covered with plastic, but the wood inside shows minor water damage, so I would have to assess the extent of that. After that, maybe eventually swap axle, springs, and tires but that would be down the road. I'll try to post more pics.

Could you remove the box and turn it around so the door is in the back? Do that and add a slide out tray with a rack on the top and you would have a good trailer.

I was wondering that myself. I have not actually seen it in person, which makes it hard to determine.

I would buy that in an instant for both a camper and/or gear hauler. That thing is nice!

This is what I have for now:

We're building an offroad terdrop style. That thing you are looking at appears to be a great find. Like one of the other posters said, I'd put a roof rack on it. :)

Well, I am in negotiations for it. If I'm not able to work something out, I'll post the information here and see if anybody else wants it. It is a ways away from me, but only an hour from my Dad, so pick up is not a problem. I just need to negotiate the right price.

Awesome! For the right price, it could be worth a vacation trip to go get.

Okay, so you guys say to add a roof rack. to do that I need mor information, hopefully you guys can help. I've never worked much with aluminum (aside from smashing cans and taking them to the recycler). What would be the best way to mount it? I assume I would mount it to the edge where it is strongest...Do I drill it? Pay somebody a bunch to weld it? The roof rack wouldn't be a priority as I don't have much need for it...yet, but would eventually like a couple of canoes and that would work awesome.

Yakima or thule racks "used from craigslist" would work perfect.
Get mounts for a flat roof that can be bolted through the top.
seal with a gasket or silicone.

I think I still have some bars in Nebraska, would just have to buy the right feet for the flat roof...hmmmm
