Transmission Problem?

Driving today in 2WD and the front light indicators on the dash started flashing and won't stop. I can put it in 4WD and everything seems to be working the same, just the flashing lights. Any suggestions as to what the problem is? Thanks.

your 4wd shift solenoids are probably out.... it's about 20-30 for a set of replacements.

car will work and go into 4wd just fine without fixing.... shifting into 4wd is a mechanical engagement actuated by the lever in the cab.... this is different from Gen 3s where it's all electronic and the engagement is solenoid related.

do a quick search and you'll find several writeups on how to resolve

The actuation of the front diff clutch isn't mechanical, it's driven by vacuum alone. Your 4wd shifter will send power forward to the diff but if it doesn't engage you won't have 4wd.
I cured my blinking light problem by snipping a few mm of vacuum line off each connection to tighten them back up and that worked for me. Check the FSM, it has complete coverage for troubleshooting that system.

Find the small vacuume line on the driver side of the intake manifold. There is a nipple that sticks out and a small line that bends 180 deg goes down to the front axle . It may be cracked of just popped off.
