So I've got a 1020 mi trip at the end of the week and I really want to take the Monty but am hesitant as I've never driven it past 100 or so miles on a trip before. I've got 192k on it and did all the baseline stuff when I got it (timing belt, regular belts, water pump, alt, shocks, etc, etc) but am still a little hesitant. Thoughts? Opinions? Experiences?

Your vehicle will see far more wear and tear driving it locally than on a road trip consisting of 90% constant speeds, fill it up and drive the dang thing! Unless you don't trust your work?

240k miles on my 94 SR. Drove it to northern cali in the heat of summer from southeast of pheonix area. Drove it 900 miles there, wheeled it hard for 8 days putting another 100 or so miles on it, drove it over 900 miles back through the scorching hot Mohave desert. Also had a roof rack full and inside the truck was filled to the max with gear, 3 other passengers as well. Truck was loaded down good. No problems. Monteros are tough and take the abuse.

I don't know where you are located but I regularly drive my cars with well over 200k to, literally, the middle of nowhere. If you've had enough miles to verify you did your work correctly and you pay attention to the truck while driving, you should be fine. At least as fine as any car out there. Ever see how often new cars need to be towed, or have warranty issues? Your montero is far more proven than any "new car". 1000 miles isn't a big deal at all for a vehicle in good repair.
