Hello Everyone ,

Im new to the forum but have been using EP for about the last year or so and after reading your posts hear for the last year . I decided to bite the bullet and buy a 2nd gen . I know these trucks are pretty bullet proof as I drove them all over the middle east while working overseas as a military contractor. After driving both the gen 2.5 and 3rd gen models it waseasy for me to come to one conclusion that the 2.5 was a more suited for a south america expedition . So guys go easy on me I'm new to the montys and can admit that I'm a FNG when it comes to this new beast. I have a few ?'s and please keep in mind I know that if you have money anything is possible but for this old soldier money is tight with a wedding and life.. How ever I do have a decent build budget..

1. When I was overseas all the montero/pajeros were mostly 5spds .. So I'm sure you gentlemen can predict my next ? I wanna swap the auto for a 5spd .. How difficult .. Point me in the direction for sourcing parts or point me in the direction of a shop with experience.. " I live in the NW " PORTLAND"

2. Wanna do a diesel conversion ??? school me guys ....

3 . Is there a clearing house for aftermaket parts , acessories , etc ???

Thanks Gentlemen

1. 5 speed gen II is far and few between. Will be difficult if not impossible to find. That said the automatic is uber reliable and pretty much bullet proof assuming you take the time to do the scheduled maintenance and use Mitsu compatible fluids. Note: Mobil 1 IS NOT mitsu compatible from what I've seen (see 4x4wire).

2. Can be done although no gen I or gen II mitsu montero's came with diesel engines in the US. One can be imported however. Some of the early mitsu pickups came with diesel engines however. Not sure what non-mitsu diesel engine fits. Alternatively you may be able to get one shipped here from overseas. A lot of Canadians have been buying TD Pajero's via importers so that could be another source of engines if not a complete TD Pajero.

3. See the FAQ thread on 4x4wire for aftermarket upgrades, parts, accessories.

HTH.
