Sometimes when i upload the track onto my 60CS from mapsource it sometimes displays a messege that says "truncated" and the track is not fully uploaded to my gps.
Why does that happen?
Maximum of 500 points go into the GPS from a saved track. You really only have two choices. Edit the track or split the track. Both methods I would recommend you copy the original track into a new Mapsource file to modify. It sucks to have over-written the original track my mistake. Remember, you can only have one file opened at a time but that doesn't mean you can't have more than one Mapsource program running at once. I hope you understand that Forgive me if you know how to do all of this but just in case, I tried to give you detailed steps for both methods below
Edit: Open the track within Mapsource. I then like to click on <SHOW ON MAP> (this will allow you to see the transformation). Select <FILTER>. Select <MAXIMUM POINTS> then enter 500. Click <OK> then watch it get filtered. If you like, click <OK> and it's done. If not, click <CANCEL>. The program does a pretty good job keeping the original "intent" of the track.
SPLIT: This takes a bit more work especially if you have a huge track but it keeps the original track detail. Open up the full track, manually select up to 500 of the first 500 points, then CUT them out. (right click on your selection then CUT, or CONTROL+X). Click OK. This will save the previous track MINUS the cut points. EDIT, NEW TRACK, type a name for your track (Example: HellsRev Pt 1). Into the main body, paste the tracks cut from the original track (right click <PASTE>, or <CONTROL>+V). Save. Repeat starting with the original track as many times as it takes to split it into parts with no more than 500 points in each.
There are pro and cons of each method. The EDIT method obviously removes out points that Mapsource would consider needless. The Split method can quickly eat up the maximum of 20 (I believe that's the magic number) saved tracks into the 60CS(x).
The 500 points only applies to transferred tracks BACK INTO the GPS. As the unit makes tracks, it's only limited by storage space and how you have them set up to record. This is one benefit to the x models. The “X” has the removable storage card. The unit can daily save the entire day's tracks to the memory card. This can happen automatically EVERY DAY! This makes for easy and complete history reviewing for track modifications later.
Sorry, I got off track (pun intended) a bit. Anywho, I hope something I wrote helps in some way.
