My wife and I talk about it and both want to do it but am looking up different designs. I came across a few pages where people have but not much in way of information. i was wondering if there are other pages that can help and where can I buy the hinges and such???

A motorhome? Like cut the top off and put a pop-up camper on it? or dump the whole body and make your own winni?
or more like a vw camper with your roof a pop-up? or do flip out bunks from the sides like a pop-out?

What exactly are you thinking?

The guy I bought my 130 from had a RR ambulance that would be a pretty good start for a motorhome.

Do a search on the Carawagon conversion for Range Rovers. They were a limited run special starting in the 1970's.

Searched for 'carawagon range rover'.....
got lead to 'Terri-Ann's' site!
I should know by now to start all searches at her site!

I am thinking like a VW vanagon type of thing with my original roof!

Had this discussion about a 69 3 door Burban too....

So, if I were to do it, I'd remove the entire roof from the RRC and make an internal cage. Hoops at the B pillar, C Pillar and cage them in. Then, now the weight will be okay, measure the Vanagon top. It is not much different in width it appears, but the length and see if you can mate it to the RRC roof. If you can, and it looks decent, then just cut out the section needed to get upstairs and then rebolt it down, making sure the roof rests on that internal cage for support.

Otherwise, save for you Westie Synchro, you drive the RRC and your better half can drive the Synchro, or vice versa.......or stick to a roof top tent.

Cool idea! I toyed with this idea a bit. I have a '84 RR (parts truck)with that bigger fabric moonroof. I was thinking put that on as the primary roof then mount my original roof over it that would pop up then access through the bigger moonroof to a sleeping quarter. It would be a one-way street though because both roofs would have to be modified. I ended up skipping the whole plan because I use a roof rack when hauling the family (4+dogs) and I have about 10yrs. worth of projects that take precedence. The roofs do overlap nicely, I did set one on top of the other to see.
Are you planning on sleeping up top or just use it for standing height in the back? Finding a VW pop roof at a junk yard may be a cheap way to get all the mech. & canvas.
Good luck, keep us posted.

I plan on sleeping up top. I actually hope to fit up to 4 in the rover when done. Seeing how I have no intention to get rid of the rover but my wife and I want kids in the future this build has to be done with that in mind. I have also thought of going the route of the earth roamer. Have my roof open up into a tent in ways. then I could hang a canvas from the roof and have a patio to cook under if it should be raining/snowing. I have to measure a bunch of items first and see what will be the best overall. I have concern with the VW top due to weight up high. I have more ideas right now and need to start narrowing them down
