I've had this syncro for about a year. Runs fantastic on and off-road. It gets about 25-28mpg cruising around 65mph. The factory twin lockers (front and rear) make it a true go-anywhere van. My girlfriend and I love the weekender bench, which is about as big as our bed at home. The weekender bench with the overall open floor plan is nice because I use the van often running around town running errands. Means I'm not always carrying around 300lbs of useless cabinetry. And, when you want to go camping just throw the yeti in, fill the upper storage space up, and go.
You'll notice the van is a bit funky. This was an european military vehicle, so no side windows and a divider from the main cab. There's also three room for three up front versus your traditional two pilot seats. The divider could be removed but is really unique and ideal as is. It's a whole lot quieter with the slidable window closed in the divider cab. You barely hear the motor. We like the privacy of not having side windows. Really only miss them when it's extremely hot, which is why we installed the fantastic fan. Other than that, love how much more secure and safe feeling this van is than our other vans.
All the bodywork, paint, and new hightop was done professionally over the last year. The factory 1.6 turbo diesel was swapped by the previous owner with the 1.9aaz. It looks and drives just like stock with a bit more kick. This van is very powerful around town and can easily climb any hill in 3rd, and sometimes in 4th with a running start and a lean forward.
There's space up top for storage both front and rear. Or serves as a bed for urban camping or kids. Doesn't need anything besides a good long road-trip to the end of the world!
