Two Mog's Overland trucks joined the 2009 Libya Ecospedition.( U4000 + U500)
The Man TGM Overland truck is owned by myself .

We did 8000 km in 3 weeks from Brussels ( Belgium) towards the AKAKUS region in south Libya near the border with Niger ( see other thread).

Thanks! Any closer front shots of the U500? I would like to see how he did the tire holder.

@dzzz

you mean the wheel in front on the U4000 or on the roof of the U500??

send me a pb with your e mail adress ,because my pic's are a bit to heavy to post on the forum.

dzzz

pm sent, thanks

The U500 is also interesting because it looks like a short wheel base with a long extension. It seems he may have covered the fuel tank too. That's interesting, because I find both sides of the U500 too exposed to 'souvenir seekers'.

Edit: Looks like the 'cover' is actually a folding table.

yes , but the wheel base is to short and the overhang to long.
That's the reason why the owner moved the spare wheel from the back to the top of the cabin.
He's still not happy with the result and is thinking to make the wheelbase longer , but this is very expensive to do and not easy with the european safety regulations.
And the both sides "where" covered , the idea was good but not the construction ,one side didn't survive the Libyan washboard tracks.
Same result for the spare wheel holder in front of the other Mog that had to be re-welded at a local shop.

aaaccckkkk!

More photos, where is the full story? What the heck I feel like I am missing a ton! HOW am I supposed to live vicariously through you if you do not provide more information?!

:D

Seriously though, would love to see and hear much more on this trip!

Very cool.

Thanks a lot for sharing.

Mind if I ask... Your MAN is not a Unicat, is it? Who built it for you then, or did you do it yourself? Any build thread on that? I love those things, wish they had them here in the states...

Those arches are great, very neat to see. If you ever choose to come out to see the ones here in Moab let me know, I would be happy to give you a tour...

@ Ford perfect

The body was made by http://www.ormocar.de/
They build body's as the customer want.
For me they builded the body with all the "openings " (doors , windows , ) the dry cell for the bathroom , the sub-chassis and the spare wheel holder.
With some help , I did the complete interior.
Here in Europe the most & best expedition truck builders are in Germany.
there is one big show each year where you can go shopping ( with your eyes or with your wallet :) ) :http://www.abenteuer-allrad.de/

The body was first mounted on a Iveco chassis , but I had to many technical problems with this truck so I changed this year for a MAN chassis.
It took us about one week to remove the body from the Iveco and mount it on the new chassis. Luckely the Man & Iveco chassis have the same width .
With te Iveco we did Morocco , Tunesia , Libya , Poland and Romania.

The Libya trip was the maiden trip for the MAN , and a "life check" to see if the transformation was ok.

very neat, thank you.

I am interested in building a truck that has the top section raise like the Unicat option. It seems like a great way to get a lot of extra space.

Anyhow, yours looks wonderful! Are you enjoying the MAN so far? I really like the DOKA MAN a lot...

Thanks for sharing

fuoristrada camper,
I really like the look of your rig and am contemplating my own with Ormocar, in Germany. If you don't mind me asking, what was your experience with them like and if I can be really rude, what kind of figures are we talking for a similar rig (body and chassis)?

Many Thanks:)

As this project was not done in one night time , we went shopping around and compared prices etc.
The best place to shop in Europe = http://www.abenteuer-allrad.de/
Most constructors are there , you can see their products and discuss your project with them. On the huge camping spot you have many customers with their trucks and just walking around , you can discuss with them and listen to their complains or good things about their trucks.
So I ended up at Ormocar , and after visiting their plant we worked with them.
They have a very very long experience and offer " a la carte " projects.
They respected the timing , price , delivery date etc.... so no complains.
The body started his life on a Iveco chassis and did Morocco as testing ,Poland , Romania ,Tunesia and Libya. After some problems with the Iveco chassis we placed the body on the MAN chassis and went again to Lybia last year , and really we do not have one complain about the body. They did a good job.

Prices are like a menu in a restaurant , so just have a look at their web site to get an idea.
