Unimog engine

Hi all, I brought a UL 1700 mog from Grays online auction direct from the Australian Army, got a unregistered vehicle permit and drove it home about 1200km, it run well and I was really surprised with the power especially uphill, I was expecting it to struggle on steep hills. Top speed was only about 90kph but it didn't need gear changes or slow much even on the steeper hills.
I give the mog a clean up and got it registered to use on my farm and business, while getting it ready for registration I noted the engine number didn't match the number that was fitted to my MOG, I checked the books that came with the MOG and no evidence of a replacement motor however the new engine number is 366 xxxxxxxxxx does this mean I have the bigger motor fitted?
The original number was 353 xxxxxxxxx.
Thanks for a great forum

I can't find anything on OM366188. I suspect the engine number should be similar to one of the U1750L's recently sold - 366 963. It's the newer version of the OM352A and the last of the 6 cylinder 300 series engines before moving to the 900 series electronic injection motor. It's set to roughly the same 168HP, but has more torque, runs a bit cleaner, most likely has valve stem seals (which many of the OM352's don't have which contributes to the Mog stink) and is easily tuned to 240HP. It's a very nice motor. Contact Unidan for intercooler, bigger turbo and better fuelling. Just be gentle on the gearbox. It's a UG3/40 so not designed to take excessive torque.
