Upcoming Diesels

With all the news flooding in of all the up and coming diesels in the near future (2010) how many folks here plan to convert their current rigs to diesel? Or how many plan to sell their current rig to purchase a new diesel vehicle?

I am looking to start expedition travel, but with all the news of diesels hitting the shore should I hold off for a new rig, or just convert when the time comes?

Converting to diesel in any vehicle is going to be expensive, even when a diesel donor vehicle of the same model is easily available.

It also brings in problems with converted vehicles haveing a mish-mash of parts. By far the easiest vehicle to order parts for is a stock vehicle - especially over a sat phone in the middle of nowhere!

Having done a few conversions, I would say that it you want a diesel, buy a diesel.

If you can't wait, then buy the truck you think you would buy later, do all of your mods, then buy the diesel when it comes out. Swap all of your mods onto the new truck, take all of the new parts and put them on your old truck and return it to stock condition with all the new stuff. Sell old truck for more $$$ than selling it all modded up. You've had your fun, learned a few things and then get a brand new truck with the diesel you had been lusting over for the past few years.

well put...seems like the right move, especially since I dont think I can wait the estimated 2 years to get started...thanks for the insight

If you do that then just hope that when the diesel comes out that the truck will not also change. I would not count on anything being the same when the Diesels arrive. It is a good time for manufacturers to update the platforms.

THat is unless you can wait till next year when the mahindra ariives.
