Used Laptop

I'm thinking of buying a used lap top from a computer repair shop by one of the bases that I work at. A coworker bought a mac for 250 and said the Dells were cheaper. He hasn't had any problems with his so far. I was wondering if this is a good idea? Or should I get new? All I need it for is the internet and school and maybe watch dvds at work

i'm nit a computer expert at all, but i have a dell latitude 600 that was given to me after being used for a work computer for about 3 years. i use it for internet only fro 2 years now and it still works good. the screen is only hanging on by one side now but it still works. my votes for dell.
