I can not access the USGS map store site with this computer.Chrome or explorer.I have tried for a couple of weeks now so I am confident that the site is up.

Windows seven, no proxy, not the firewall.Any help would be greatly apreciated thanks in advance.

their maps are outdated so why bother

I went into the local USFS to buy some(paper) a few years ago for hiking, only to notice the local bypass that was put in 10yrs before wasnt added to the map though the map was just updated an year prior

called the local office back & got the run around

get delormes & be done with it

well the usfs and the usgs are two different agencies. so first the usfs, the maps they sell to the general public only show places they want you to go. if you want good usfs maps you must get the ones the rangers get, totally different maps, not available unless you ask and then only if the person behind the desk decides if you as a citizen is worthy of one. the usfs will willingly sell you an outdated map. now the usgs, they are the premier mappers of this country. however they can't be everywhere updating maps as fast as changes happen. all of your back country maps are usgs based. delormes or whoever are all usgs based with a lot less detail. certain areas might be updated quicker, but like I said they lack detail. however recently it seems the usgs is leaving things off their maps as well, especially old mines. I notice this because I am a prospector. so I really like those old outdated maps, pre 70's, they show everything that was there at the time. the old 15 minute usgs maps are priceless. pick up one of those and compare it to any other map, you will be blown away by how much the newer maps leave off. my 2 cents. highdesertranger
