Uttrakhand and East Nepal 2007

Not a hard core expedition by any means, but we are making our way through the Himalayan province of Uttrakhand into East Nepal on a medical outreach trip. There are four of us and we are staying with friends in villages along the way. The trip runs a total of 650 miles on mainly washboard roads. Our vehicle is a fairly new turbocharged Mahindra- bone stock but I’m quite impressed so far…..and diesels just sound cool, even with an Indian accent.:)
Some pics- mainly scenery. but I’ll post some more when I get over this spell of diarrhea- gotta GO!:(
1. Mahindra SUV- Indian version of the land cruiser
2. East Nepal border
3. A little too top-heavy
4. OJ sighting- on a water buffalo!
5. Local all-terrain vehicle
6. Village of Dharan
7. They all preferred the Engel 45 over the National Luna unit.

BWAHAHAHA!

Hilarious photo of those boys reading OJ. Will you be sharing some stories with us? Thanks for the photos.

Realize this thread probably belongs in the adventures/events section. Mods feel free to delete/move.

Anyway, a few more pictures from the road:
1. Landslide- not an uncommon occurance
2. Mahindra engine bay- battery terminal came loose- only trouble we had
3. Vehicle is stuffed with med supplies, we're cramped- wishing I had my AT Chaser.
4. Some shots of the terrain

1., 2., 3. Typical lower Himalayan hamlets

4. Seven Eleven in the 'city' of Gorakpur- with DSL- online, finally!
5. Wife next to a Chevrolet taxi in Uttrakhand- I’d never heard of a “Tavera” before.
6. Another OJ moment

Thanks to articulate for pointing this thread out. I missed it somehow.

This is a suberb photograph. I love the lighting and the mood it sets.

I find it incredibly admirable to use your talents and skills to help those less fortunate. Mixing it up with unique vehicles and a little advenutre makes it even more fun to see.
