Valve clicking?

Just curious as to whether it's pretty common for our valves to click pretty loud, my 95 SR has always done it since I bought it back in the fall of 2010, the truck runs fine, but I wanted to know if this is something I should be worried about, or if there's a simple fix for it. Thanks in advance guys.

Get an OE oil filter.9out of 10 times it cures it. There is a pressure relief valve in the filter that is nore suited to the correct oil pressure than generic filters. HTH:sombrero:

A mobil one filter works too. They have the valve as well. You may want to check your pcv valve just cause.

These engines use automatic valve lash adjusters (well at least my 6g72 engine in my 1998 Montero Sport does!) so sometimes air gets stuck in the little buggers and creates a small gap between the tappet and the valve (I think that's what they're called) there's a procedure from Mitsubishi for fixing the air bubbles, it's listed on pirate4x4.com, but I believe it was 0-3000 rpm over 15 seconds then let idle for 15 seconds then repeat as many as 30 plus times. Sometimes does and does not work. Hope this helps!

By the way I use mobil 1 oil filters, fully synthetic oils and the valve tapping comes and goes, its just a minor design flaw unfortunately. BUT it means I should not have to worry about valve gaps for quite some time!

I should add, it rarely if ever happens anymore, a trick to not letting it happen again is closely monitoring your oil levels, because as soon as the oil gets low due to leakage or burning; air gets induced in the system and the tapping or "clicking" can take some time to go away after you replenish the oil.

Thanks guys, I'll try the oil change, although I've done it twice already, and the oil I used was synthetic, with no noticeable change, maybe the filter will be the big difference, I'm just happy that this seems to be a common thing, and not something I should be too worried about, albeit a little annoyed by the noise.

when i 1st noticed i was pretty worried, bc i was worried the noise was coming from the butterflys...once they start rattling you can be sure they will soon fall into the engine possibly creating lots of damage.

Just wanted to update you guys on this, I did the oil change, and this time I tried the Mobil1 filter, and I think that did it, there is still a little clicking, but it's not even close to what it was before, and from what someone once told me, these engines do have a little tick to em anyways.

Thanks for the advice

Good info...I will be getting a Mobil1 filter for my next oil change. I have been running Royal Purple since the rebuild & was cusious what brand synthetic oil you guys use / prefer?

To be honest, I use dino oil in mine. Havoline 10w 40 for the most part. If I have to add, I put 20w 50 in there. Royal purple is the best oil in my opinion, but mobil one seems to make the most synthetic and is one of the leaders in that sort of thing. Seems that they offer the best bang for the buck.

Glad it worked for you. You should notice an increase in you oil pressure as well.

Thanks. And actually for oil I used Castrol gtx, their high mileage blend, but I went with the Mobil 1 filter for that valve you guys mentioned, and so far so good :)
